STEEL BUILDING USA / SECURE DUMPSTER โ€ข CONTRACTOR RESOURCE

Contractor Installation Playbook

A repeatable 0โ€“10 field workflow for new-build and retrofit dumpster enclosures: what to check, which sheet to open, which photo to capture, and when to stop and ask for clarification.

This is a public project-management orientation, not the unapproved detailed Rev C construction SOP. The purchased drawings, original signed Wynn structural files, local permit conditions, approved products and qualified project professionals govern all construction work.

Pick the correct design path

SD-S

A3 / Wynn Option C

Single new build: review signed footing and frame options.

SD-D

A1 / Wynn Option A

Double new build: review foundations, front gates and exact post spacing.

SD-R

A4 / Wynn Option D

Single retrofit: review the EXISTING CMU and anchor scope.

SD-RD

A2 / Wynn Option B

Double retrofit: additional center gate post clarification is a required hold item.

Never qualify a retrofit on dimensions alone. Verify existing wall and footing condition, connections, soil, hazards and local requirements. The signed structural document controls wherever a detail or note differs from the architectural sheet.

The field workflow

Organized to match the headings in the internal Rev C Installation SOP (phases 0, 0A, 1, 1A, and 2โ€“10). This public summary deliberately omits installation dimensions, fastener schedules, anchor embedments and means/methods; consult the signed details and a qualified installer for those decisions.

Stage 0

Site qualification, permits and coordination

Confirm model and physical enclosure ID; log site address and owner; confirm which code edition/AHJ applies; obtain site-specific hazard inputs and signed-design eligibility review. Coordinate refuse-hauler access and outage.

Job-file evidence: Site intake, field photos, applicable hazard report, local review requirements, registered license.

Stop / get clarification: No permit where required, site outside S0 limits, missing existing-wall verification, missing hauler clearance.

Stage 0A

Utility locate / subsurface scope

If excavation, drilling or coring will disturb subsurface utilities, use the applicable one-call notification and verify responses before ground disturbance.

Job-file evidence: Utility notification/ticket and site-marking record, where applicable.

Stop / get clarification: Unresolved utility marks or conflicts.

Stage 1

Field layout

Compare actual opening, bin swing and gate clearances with the selected A-sheet and applicable S1.0 structural option. Coordinate the setting out with the responsible installer.

Job-file evidence: Dimensioned site sketch, model match and photo log.

Stop / get clarification: Existing footprint, slope, opening or clearances differ from applicable plans.

Stage 1A

Construction stormwater controls

Identify nearby storm drains and place appropriate controls for saw-cutting, drilling, dust, debris and washout. Keep slurry, metal swarf and loose waste out of drains.

Job-file evidence: Before/during photos of containment and cleanup.

Stop / get clarification: Uncontrolled discharge, blocked public access, unsecured wastes.

Stage 2

New-build footings

For SD-S / SD-D only: use approved foundation, soil and site-hazard inputs. Follow S1.0 footing schedule and governing S2 connection details; record inspections required by the permit.

Job-file evidence: Foundation layout/inspection record, reinforcing photos, concrete documentation, applicable hazard tier.

Stop / get clarification: Unexpected soils/groundwater, utility conflict, unapproved footing variation.

Stage 3

Retrofit anchorage

For SD-R / SD-RD only: verify the actual existing CMU structure and applicable anchor detail. Coordinate adhesive-anchor work with the inspection requirements shown in S0 and imposed locally.

Job-file evidence: Existing-masonry condition record; anchor and inspection documentation.

Stop / get clarification: Unknown CMU reinforcement/footing, incompatible material, failed anchor inspection.

Stage 4

Columns and structural beams

Verify delivered members against the correct option on S1.0 and connection callouts on S2.0/S2.1. Use approved/shop-prepared components and prescribed installation methods.

Job-file evidence: Installed-frame photos, member ID checks, site deviation log.

Stop / get clarification: Unapproved substitute member, improvised post or ambiguous SD-RD center-post connection.

Stage 5

Roof framing

Coordinate framing, bracing, blocking and connections to the signed structural plans. Check out-of-square conditions before roof panels are placed.

Job-file evidence: Framing photos and applicable inspection sign-off.

Stop / get clarification: Missing connection details, unequal support elevation, design deviation.

Stage 6

Roof deck

Install only the approved roofing system and fastening pattern specified by the governing plans and product documentation. Confirm drainage concept and roof edges with the designer/AHJ.

Job-file evidence: Roof installation photos, product records, approved drainage notes.

Stop / get clarification: Fastener or panel substitution, unapproved drainage destination, penetration not in plans.

Stage 7

Wall framing and panels

For new builds use the specified wall framing and cladding. On retrofits distinguish retained existing masonry from new covering or trim.

Job-file evidence: Wall elevations, materials and corrosion-protection checks.

Stop / get clarification: Architectural/structural contradiction, missing fire/access requirement.

Stage 8

Trim, flashing and weather edges

Install approved trim per architectural D1 and approved product details. Confirm corners, edges and drainage are consistent with site design.

Job-file evidence: Close-up trim photos and site finish checklist.

Stop / get clarification: Field improvisation that changes drainage, attachment or required clearances.

Stage 9

Gates and hardware

Match gate schedule, operational clearances, support posts and the gate-weight design limit. Coordinate container-servicing geometry with the hauler.

Job-file evidence: Door swing and latch operation photos, actual gate weight documentation.

Stop / get clarification: Unverified center gate post anchorage, overweight gates, hauler access obstruction.

Stage 10

Inspection, owner handoff and closeout

Complete permit-specific inspections, approved corrections, site/license record and field-photo archive. Transfer operations/maintenance guidance to the owner.

Job-file evidence: Final inspection record, as-built deviations, maintenance contact, photo set.

Stop / get clarification: Open plan-check comments, unresolved deviations or incomplete required inspection.

What to save in every contractor job file

A job folder should include: the selected model and registered physical enclosure ID; architectural CS/A-sheet/D1; untouched signed Wynn S0/S1.0/S2.0/S2.1 and calculations; approved site plan; hazard/soil documentation when required; permit and plan-check responses; inspection records; product and gate documentation; dated photos; and owner/hauler handoff. Additional items depend on the AHJ and contract.

Make the first purchase lead to the materials kit

Buy the licensed standard plan package for the enclosure, then request qualifying steel materials. The published offer credits the plan-license amount toward eligible Secure Dumpster materials for that registered enclosure, subject to the license and purchase terms; it is not a cash rebate or a permit guarantee. Contractors with repeat locations can consider the five-site plan-license package.
