Planning a steel-framed home, barndominium or ADU? Use this checklist to organize the information a framing supplier, engineer or project team will typically need before pricing and coordination can become meaningful.
Project Readiness Checklist
Project location
City, state and ZIP code. Local wind, snow, seismic and permitting requirements can affect the framing package.
Building use
Primary residence, ADU, barndominium, garage, workshop, addition or another use.
Basic dimensions
Overall footprint, wall heights, number of stories and major spans.
Floor plans
Current architectural plans, sketches or dimensioned layouts if available.
Roof information
Roof shape, pitch, overhangs, attic conditions and any vaulted areas.
Large openings
Garage doors, multi-panel sliders, large windows and other openings that affect framing.
Foundation status
Whether the slab/foundation is designed, existing or still being developed.
Design team status
Architect, engineer, GC or owner-builder contacts and what has already been completed.
Schedule
Target permit, framing delivery and construction dates if known.
Questions / constraints
Access, shipping, staging, wildfire exposure, coastal conditions or other project-specific constraints.
