Engineered dumpster enclosure plans are useful when you want a defined design package rather than starting each commercial trash enclosure from a blank drawing. But not every advertised ‘plan set’ includes stamped structural documents, calculations, or rights to reuse the drawings.
Here is exactly how the Secure Dumpster™ standard licensed package is organized, what it does not include, and what a contractor or property owner should verify before submitting for a permit.
Architectural drawings included
The architectural PDF contains six sheets. CS is the project overview. A1 illustrates the SD-D double new-build configuration. A2 covers SD-RD double retrofit. A3 shows SD-S single new build, A4 shows SD-R single retrofit, and D1 includes gate and trim details.
The architectural package provides a consistent reference for the four standard configurations. A customer still selects the one physical enclosure that will be licensed and constructed at the named address.
Signed structural plans included
The package includes the separate digitally signed structural drawings by Wynn Engineering, Inc., Job 26-603. The structural file contains sheets S0 through S2.1. These sheets govern the design basis, required framing and foundational criteria, and applicable structural constraints.
The engineer’s digitally signed structural calculations are a separate PDF. They support the standardized design but are not a site investigation or permit approval for any individual parcel.
Why the digitally signed files must remain unchanged
A purchaser receives the engineer’s signed PDFs intact. They should not be edited, stamped, combined, re-saved, converted or otherwise processed in a way that invalidates the digital signatures. The buyer’s name, order number, selected model and site address are placed on the separately licensed architectural copy. If structural redesign is required, new engineering should be prepared by an appropriately qualified professional.
Four configuration options
- SD-S: single new-build steel enclosure.
- SD-R: single roof retrofit for qualifying existing enclosures.
- SD-D: double new-build steel enclosure.
- SD-RD: double roof retrofit for qualifying existing enclosures.
For measurements and clearances, see the single versus double enclosure dimensions guide.
What is excluded from the standard plan purchase?
- Site plan and survey for a particular parcel.
- Property-specific seismic hazard report, soils or geotechnical information.
- Project-specific civil grading, drainage and utility design.
- Fire-access, accessibility or other separately required analyses.
- Building permit, plan-check and inspection fees.
- Steel materials, fabrication, freight, concrete work and construction labor.
- Site-specific redesign or professional responses to local plan-check comments.
The local authority may request some or all of these. Nothing in the standard license guarantees acceptance by any city.
What are the price and use rights?
Steel Building USA’s introductory single-site plan license is $495. A five-site contractor pack is $1,495 for five separately registered physical enclosures, an effective $299 per site. A single-site license is limited to one enclosure at one named construction address. It does not authorize a contractor to reproduce the same set for another customer or a second structure without an additional license.
The actual plan fee paid can be credited in full toward qualifying Secure Dumpster materials purchased directly from Steel Building USA for the same licensed enclosure and site. The credit does not expire and has no minimum materials purchase; unused credit carries forward for that specific project. It cannot be exchanged for cash or used toward permits, taxes, freight, labor or additional engineering.
Can I submit the plans directly for a permit?
Only after the project site and local submittal requirements have been verified. Secure Dumpster’s standard design is based on the 2025 California Building Code and ASCE/SEI 7-22 with specified maximum wind, seismic, height, gate-weight, soil and snow conditions. Sites outside any applicable signed limit require site-specific engineering.
Before buying, provide the site address, single/double preference, known dimensions, existing-condition photos for retrofits, and any city’s published trash enclosure checklist. If the city requires wall materials, roof heights or screening that differ from the standard configuration, the design may need modification.
Questions to ask before purchasing any stock engineered plan
- Is the permit set architectural only, or does it also include signed structural calculations?
- Which engineer is responsible for the structural design, and which state is it intended for?
- What wind, seismic, soil, snow and dimensional limits apply?
- Does one purchase grant one build or broader reuse rights?
- Can the files be submitted intact without losing the engineer’s digital signature?
- What additional documents could the building department require?
- What happens if site-specific revisions are needed?
For broader requirements, read California trash enclosure roof rules by city and existing block enclosure roof retrofits.

Next step: check your enclosure site
If you are planning a new enclosure or considering a roof retrofit, review the Secure Dumpster™ engineered dumpster enclosure plans. Four standard models are available for qualifying conditions. Plans are licensed for one physical enclosure at one identified site. The standard package is not a city permit, and sites outside its published design limits need site-specific engineering.
